{"id":19357,"date":"2023-06-12T12:31:14","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T10:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vulcania.com\/?page_id=19357"},"modified":"2023-09-06T13:58:13","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T11:58:13","slug":"historical","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vulcania.com\/en\/historical\/","title":{"rendered":"Vulcania was born of a dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;17074&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;coins-arrondis&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;intro&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Katia and Maurice Krafft dream of creating &#8220;Vulcania&#8221;, a science park in the heart of the Puy-de-D\u00f4me region.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In 1992, the Conseil R\u00e9gional d&#8217;Auvergne (Auvergne Regional Council) decided to launch a volcanic science park and museum in the heart of the <a href=\"\/en\/animation\/la-chaine-des-puys-en-relief\/\">Cha\u00eene des Puys<\/a>, on the territory of the Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional (a 57-hectare former military site).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In 1994, the project (architecture and scenography) was entrusted to the Austrian architect Hans Hollein.<br \/>\nThe \u20ac123 million investment was financed 85% by the Region, 10% by Europe and 5% by the French State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: left;\">On February 20, 2002, Vulcania, owned by the Regional Council, opened its doors to the public. Its operation is entrusted to SEM Volcans, with two main objectives:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Disseminate the latest know-how and knowledge in volcanology and earth and universe sciences;<\/li>\n<li>To be a tool for the economic, cultural and tourist development of the Auvergne region, i.e. the 4 d\u00e9partements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This dual objective sums up what makes Vulcania so special:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulcania.com\/en\/a-scientific-park\/\">Parc Scientifique<\/a>, with content developed in conjunction with the Park&#8217;s scientific team and overseen by an external Scientific Advisory Board made up of Europe&#8217;s leading Earth science specialists.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulcania.com\/en\/amusement-park\/\">Parc Attractif<\/a> to attract and retain as many people as possible to Auvergne.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The balance between these two requirements &#8211; science park and family theme park &#8211; has not always been easy to achieve since the park opened, but it&#8217;s what makes Vulcania so unique and distinctive.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;60&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;17074&#8243; img_size=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;coins-arrondis&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;intro&#8221;] Katia and Maurice Krafft dream of creating &#8220;Vulcania&#8221;, a science park in the heart of the Puy-de-D\u00f4me region.
