Ils tournent autour du Soleil, bien loin au-dessus de nos t\u00eates, la plupart entre les orbites de Mars et de Jupiter.<\/p>\n<p>En un grand billard cosmique, certains s\u2019entrechoquent et sont \u00e9ject\u00e9s de leur trajectoire initiale. Parmi ceux-ci, certains peuvent finir par percuter la Terre.<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, de nombreux ast\u00e9ro\u00efdes ont crois\u00e9 le chemin de notre plan\u00e8te au cours de son histoire. Des crat\u00e8res d&rsquo;impact, \u00e9normes cicatrices parfois encore visibles, t\u00e9moignent des collisions pass\u00e9es avec ces bolides venus du ciel. Ces derniers ont probablement boulevers\u00e9 le long chemin \u00e9volutif de la vie sur Terre.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]L\u2019\u00e9tude de ces impacts &#8211; on parle d\u2019impactisme &#8211; a pris une importance grandissante dans la reconstitution de l\u2019\u00e9volution de la vie, notamment en lien avec les extinctions massives d&rsquo;esp\u00e8ces vivantes. En effet, les pal\u00e9ontologues ont identifi\u00e9 au moins cinq crises biologiques majeures dans le pass\u00e9 terrestre. La plus importante date de 250 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es : cette extinction concerna au moins 90 % des esp\u00e8ces vivantes !<\/p>\n<p>Pr\u00e8s de 190 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es plus tard se produit l\u2019extinction de masse des dinosaures et pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 des autres esp\u00e8ces vivant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>La trace d&rsquo;un impact g\u00e9ant<\/h2>\n<p>Cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement majeur serait d\u00fb \u00e0 la chute d\u2019un gros ast\u00e9ro\u00efde. Sa trace ? Le crat\u00e8re de Chicxulub, vieux de 65 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es. Il est enfoui sous la P\u00e9ninsule du Yukatan, au Mexique, et son diam\u00e8tre atteint 200 kilom\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n<p>Un crat\u00e8re de cette dimension r\u00e9v\u00e8le l\u2019impact d\u2019un bloc rocheux d&rsquo;environ 10 kilom\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre, qui aurait percut\u00e9 la Terre \u00e0 une vitesse d&rsquo;environ 90 000 km\/h !<\/p>\n<p>Une telle collision est un cataclysme d\u2019une ampleur qui nous d\u00e9passe totalement : elle lib\u00e8re brusquement une \u00e9nergie colossale, \u00e9quivalant \u00e0 des centaines de millions de bombes atomiques. L\u2019explosion est si extraordinairement violente que l&rsquo;ast\u00e9ro\u00efde est enti\u00e8rement pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9. Le souffle de l\u2019explosion provoque une d\u00e9vastation totale et presque imm\u00e9diate du paysage sur des milliers de kilom\u00e8tres \u00e0 la ronde. Le choc s\u2019accompagne, entre autres, d\u2019incendies gigantesques et de nombreux s\u00e9ismes et tsunamis majeurs. Ses r\u00e9percussions deviennent rapidement plan\u00e9taires : les milliers de milliards de tonnes de gaz et de poussi\u00e8res inject\u00e9es dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re r\u00e9duisent l\u2019ensoleillement et refroidissent durablement le climat mondial. La v\u00e9g\u00e9tation \u00e9tant priv\u00e9e de lumi\u00e8re, c&rsquo;est toute la cha\u00eene alimentaire qui en subit les cons\u00e9quences.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Une place \u00e0 prendre<\/h2>\n<p>Le calme revenu, les conditions de temp\u00e9rature et d&rsquo;ensoleillement redevinrent plus cl\u00e9mentes \u00e0 la surface du globe : la vie se remit naturellement \u00e0 foisonner.<\/p>\n<p>Les milieux naturels, lib\u00e9r\u00e9s des grands reptiles d\u00e9sormais disparus, furent reconquis par des esp\u00e8ces animales plus petites et mieux adapt\u00e9es. Rapidement eut lieu une nouvelle explosion des esp\u00e8ces rescap\u00e9es de cette s\u00e9lection qui, pour \u00eatre accidentelle, n&rsquo;en \u00e9tait pas moins naturelle. D\u00e8s lors, la voie \u00e9tait libre pour le d\u00e9veloppement et l&rsquo;expansion des mammif\u00e8res, et bient\u00f4t de l&rsquo;homme. Jusqu&rsquo;au prochain&#8230; \u00ab\u00a0accident\u00a0\u00bb ?[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Et si la vie venait d\u2019ailleurs\u00a0?<\/h2>\n<p>Fragments d&rsquo;ast\u00e9ro\u00efdes, il se peut que les m\u00e9t\u00e9orites tomb\u00e9es sur Terre aient pu tenir un r\u00f4le majeur dans l\u2019apparition de la vie terrestre. D&rsquo;une part, avec leurs s\u0153urs les com\u00e8tes, elles ont certainement apport\u00e9 beaucoup d\u2019eau \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque du bombardement intensif qu&rsquo;a subie la plan\u00e8te \u00e0 ses d\u00e9buts. Reste une grande interrogation : d\u2019o\u00f9 vient r\u00e9ellement la vie sur notre plan\u00e8te, et par quel \u00ab\u00a0miracle\u00a0\u00bb est-elle apparue ? Quel fut le d\u00e9clencheur de cette \u00ab\u00a0alchimie improbable\u00a0\u00bb qui, au gr\u00e9 d&rsquo;une \u00e9volution complexe, a men\u00e9 jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 nous, qui nous posons justement cette question ?&#8230; Les premiers maillons ayant permis la vie sont-ils apparus sur Terre, ou ont-ils \u00e9t\u00e9 apport\u00e9 du Cosmos par les m\u00e9t\u00e9orites ? En effet, certaines de ces pierres tomb\u00e9es du ciel contiennent des mol\u00e9cules organiques, \u00ab\u00a0briques\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires de la vie. Elles pourraient avoir \u00ab\u00a0ensemenc\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb la Terre, il y quelque 4 milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es. \u00c0 partir de ce mat\u00e9riau de base, le temps faisant son \u0153uvre, l\u2019\u00e9volution aurait alors \u00ab\u00a0invent\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb et diversifi\u00e9 la vie, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019homme !
